New Client Consultation & Care Assessment

Every pet is unique, and we believe exceptional care begins with getting to know both you and your pets. That’s why we require a New Client Consultation & Care Assessment before providing any pet sitting, dog walking, or specialty pet care services.

Your consultation can be conveniently scheduled and paid for online through Calendly, making the process simple and hassle-free. The consultation fee is $25 and is credited toward your first completed pet care service.

This one-time appointment is much more than a meet and greet—it’s a comprehensive assessment that allows us to learn about your pets’ personalities, routines, medical needs, behaviors, and preferences while ensuring our services are the right fit for your family. It also gives you the opportunity to meet your pet care professional, ask questions, and feel confident knowing who will be caring for your beloved companions.

During your in-home consultation, we’ll discuss:

✔ Your pets’ daily routines and schedules

✔ Feeding instructions and dietary requirements

✔ Medications and medical conditions

✔ Exercise, enrichment, and activity needs

✔ Behavioral traits, fears, and training cues

✔ Home access procedures and security information

✔ Emergency contacts and veterinary information

✔ Service recommendations tailored to your pets’ needs

✔ Any additional care instructions or household preferences

Our goal is to create a personalized care plan that keeps your pets comfortable by maintaining the routines they’re already familiar with. Every recommendation we make is based on your pets’ age, health, personality, activity level, and lifestyle to ensure they receive the safest and highest quality care possible.

Dog Walking Assessment

If you’ve requested dog walking services, we’ll also complete a brief introductory walk during your consultation whenever appropriate. This allows your dog to become familiar with their walker while giving us the opportunity to evaluate leash manners, comfort level, walking pace, reactivity, and overall handling needs. This assessment helps us provide safer, more enjoyable walks tailored to your dog’s individual personality.

Optional Extended Care Plan Update (follow-up) Consultation

As your pets grow and their needs change, we’re here to help. Clients may schedule an Extended Care Plan Update Consultation for $20 whenever significant updates or changes require additional planning.

This optional consultation is ideal for situations such as:

✔ Adding a new pet to your household

✔ Welcoming a puppy or kitten

✔ Senior pet care planning

✔ New medical diagnoses or medication routines

✔ Behavioral or training concerns

✔ Major changes to your pet’s daily routine

✔ Changes to your home, access instructions, or household members

✔ Reviewing and updating long-term care plans

These consultations allow us to update your pet’s care instructions, answer questions, and ensure our team continues providing the personalized, professional care your family expects.

Our mission is simple: to build a trusted relationship with you and your pets from day one, creating a customized care plan that provides exceptional care and complete peace of mind every time you entrust your pets to PAWsome Companions.

**Kindly note that any follow-up consultations after your initial session will be subject to a fee of $20 for every 30-minute period**

You can help your professional pet sitter provide the best possible care for your beloved pets while you are away. Be prepared with all the information your pet sitter needs and gather needed information in advance so you won’t overlook any important details.

Keep these reminders in mind when preparing for your pet sitter’s visit:

  • Schedules are important! Make your reservations for a pet sitter as far in advance as possible and remember to call the sitter if you are coming home later or earlier than expected. This will allow the pet sitter to plan for extra visits or serve additional clients.
  • Have everything necessary to care for your pet in one general and visible area. This includes food, treats, utensils, food and water bowls, medications, leash, can opener, toys, paper towels, cleaning supplies, garbage bags, litter and scoop, broom and dustpan and/or vacuum cleaner, towels (for rainy walks), newspapers (if paper training), watering can for plants, etc.
  • Leave extra supplies, just in case. Provide extra food, litter and supplies just in case you are not able to return when anticipated.
  • Be sure to leave plastic bags for sanitary disposal of feces. Pet sitters are happy to perform this task while you’re away, but shouldn’t be expected to clean up accumulation prior to your absence!
  • Clean out the refrigerator before leaving. This will help avoid smelly food spoilage, and wash any dishes in the sink to prevent ants or other pests.
  • For the comfort of your pet, adjust your thermostat before leaving on your trip and advise your pet sitter within what range to keep it. A closed-up home can get uncomfortably hot in a short time.
  • Tell the pet sitter if bathrooms or any other household areas are off limits to your pet and/or sitter. Secure access to these areas before leaving home. Also, make the pet sitter aware if your cat happens to love shredding the contents of the bathroom trashcan or if the toilet is prone to run or become clogged.
  • If you’re leaving anything specifically for your pet sitter; e.g., homegrown tomatoes on the counter, Peanut M & M candies, a monetary tip, be sure to leave a note. Otherwise, most pet sitters are so honest and trustworthy you may arrive home to find rotting tomatoes!
  • Will other people be checking on your pet? If so, help avoid confusion by making it clear what the pet sitter is responsible for and what other visitors will be entrusted to do.
  • Notify your veterinarian in writing that a pet sitter will be caring for your pet. You will want to authorize the vet to extend medical care during your absence if it becomes necessary.

Securing Your Home for Your Pet Sitter’s Arrival

In addition to keeping your beloved pets safe, happy and well cared for, a professional pet sitter also attends to the safety and security of your home while you are away.

Here are some tips you can do to help:

  • Make sure your pet sitter is aware of anyone who may be on your premises or entering your home during the pet-sitting assignment.
  • Use timers on interior lights to go on at dusk and off at bedtime as well as motion sensors on exterior lights. If evening visits are scheduled to your home, the pet sitter will really appreciate this safety precaution!
  • Make sure doors and windows are securely locked before leaving. This should include garage doors, sliding glass doors and basement doors and windows. If outside doors have panes of glass near a push-button lock, consider installing a dead bolt lock as well.
  • Advise gate security that a pet sitter will be visiting your home and authorize entry.
  • Inform your neighbors of your absence and use of a pet sitter.
  • Mow the lawn before you leave and arrange for exterior maintenance as necessary during your absences from home.
  • Make sure any fences are secure and gates are locked.
