EXTRA SUPPORT FOR PETS WHO NEED A LITTLE MORE 🐾💚

Some pets need more than routine pet sitting—and we’re here for them.

PAWsome Companions’ Specialty & Medical Pet Care provides personalized in-home support for senior pets, puppies, pets with medical conditions, animals recovering from surgery or illness, and pets who require additional patience, supervision, or hands-on care.

Our goal is to help your pet remain safe, comfortable, and supported in the familiar surroundings of home while following their established routine and veterinarian-directed care instructions.

🩺 WHO IS SPECIALTY CARE FOR?

Specialty & Medical Pet Care may be appropriate for:

  • Senior and geriatric pets
  • Puppies requiring additional supervision
  • Pets with chronic medical conditions
  • Diabetic pets
  • Pets requiring medication
  • Pets requiring injections
  • Pets requiring subcutaneous fluids
  • Pets recovering from surgery
  • Pets recovering from illness or injury
  • Pets requiring basic wound-care assistance
  • Pets with mobility limitations
  • Disabled or special-needs pets
  • Fearful, anxious, or sensitive pets
  • Pets requiring additional wellness monitoring
  • Pets who cannot comfortably be left alone for extended periods

Every pet’s circumstances are different. We evaluate specialty-care requests individually to determine whether the requested care is appropriate and within our professional scope of training.

💊 MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION

Keeping pets on their established medication schedule can be especially important while their family is away.

Depending on the pet and prescribed treatment plan, we may assist with:

  • Oral medications
  • Pills and capsules
  • Liquid medications
  • Topical medications
  • Eye or ear medications
  • Other veterinarian-directed medication routines within our scope of training

We follow the instructions provided by the pet parent and prescribing veterinarian and document medication administration as part of the visit.

💉 INJECTIONS & SUBCUTANEOUS FLUIDS

For established clients and appropriate care situations, we may provide certain veterinarian-directed treatments, including:

  • Prescribed injections
  • Insulin administration
  • Subcutaneous fluid administration
  • Other approved at-home treatment support within our training

Some procedures or pets may require two caregivers for safe handling and administration.

Medical-care requests are reviewed before service begins to ensure our team can safely and appropriately perform the requested task.

🩹 POST-OPERATIVE & RECOVERY SUPPORT

Recovering pets often need more supervision and a quieter routine than usual.

Post-operative and recovery visits may include:

  • Restricted-activity supervision
  • Potty assistance
  • Mobility support
  • Medication administration
  • Basic wound observation
  • Basic veterinarian-directed wound-care assistance
  • Monitoring eating and drinking
  • Monitoring bathroom habits
  • Preventing excessive activity when possible
  • Comfort and companionship
  • Reporting changes or concerns to the pet parent

We work from the discharge and care instructions provided by your veterinary professional.

🐾 SENIOR PET CARE

Older pets deserve care that moves at their pace.

Senior-care visits can be customized for pets experiencing age-related changes and may include:

  • Gentle mobility assistance
  • Additional potty breaks
  • Medication support
  • Specialized feeding routines
  • Slower-paced walks
  • Assistance navigating the home
  • Comfortable positioning and rest
  • Additional wellness observation
  • Gentle enrichment
  • Extra companionship

For pets who need more continuous support, we may recommend Hourly Pet Sitting & Extended Care or Specialty Overnight Care rather than a traditional drop-in visit.

🐶 SPECIALTY PUPPY CARE

Puppies can also qualify for specialty care when their age or circumstances require additional supervision.

Care may include:

  • Frequent potty breaks
  • Scheduled meals
  • Puppy-safe enrichment
  • Supervised play
  • Rest and nap routines
  • Routine reinforcement
  • Close supervision
  • Monitoring chewing and environmental safety
  • Age-appropriate walks when appropriate
  • Extra companionship

We focus on maintaining the routine established by the puppy’s family rather than providing formal dog-training services during pet-sitting visits.

💚 FEAR FREE & GENTLE CARE

Medical procedures and unfamiliar caregivers can be stressful for animals.

Our approach emphasizes Fear Free principles, patience, gentle handling, observation of body language, and respect for each pet’s individual comfort level.

We never believe that completing a non-emergency task is more important than a pet’s immediate physical and emotional safety.

If a pet becomes excessively fearful, stressed, defensive, or unsafe to handle, we may stop the procedure and contact the pet parent to determine the safest next step.

🔎 CAREFUL WELLNESS OBSERVATION

Specialty care isn’t only about completing a medication or medical task.

During each visit, we may monitor changes in your pet’s:

  • Appetite
  • Water consumption
  • Bathroom habits
  • Mobility
  • Energy level
  • Behavior
  • Breathing
  • Appearance
  • Comfort
  • Medication tolerance
  • Surgical or recovery area when applicable

Our caregivers do not diagnose medical conditions, but attentive observation can help identify when something appears different from your pet’s established baseline.

If we notice a concerning change, we’ll contact you according to your established care and emergency plan.

🏡 WHAT HAPPENS DURING A SPECIALTY CARE VISIT?

Every visit is customized to the individual pet.

Depending on the care plan, a visit may include:

MEDICAL SUPPORT

Medication, injections, subcutaneous fluids, or other approved veterinarian-directed care.

WELLNESS MONITORING

Observation of appetite, hydration, elimination, mobility, behavior, comfort, and overall condition.

DAILY CARE

Feeding, fresh water, potty breaks, litter box care, and other routine needs.

MOBILITY & COMFORT SUPPORT

Assistance for senior, disabled, injured, or recovering pets.

ENRICHMENT & COMPANIONSHIP

Calm interaction, gentle play, affection, enrichment, or simply quiet companionship based on the pet’s preferences.

DETAILED CARE UPDATES

Photos and information about completed care, medications, eating, bathroom activity, behavior, and relevant observations.

⏰ HOW LONG IS A SPECIALTY CARE VISIT?

The appropriate visit length depends on the pet and the tasks being performed.

Some medication routines may require only a short scheduled visit, while pets requiring multiple treatments, mobility assistance, recovery monitoring, or extensive care may require a longer appointment.

After reviewing your pet’s needs, we’ll recommend an appropriate service length rather than rushing medically necessary or specialty care into an appointment that is too short.

📝 BEFORE MEDICAL CARE BEGINS

For your pet’s safety, we may require information such as:

  • Current veterinary information
  • Emergency veterinary contact
  • Written medication instructions
  • Medication name and dosage
  • Administration schedule
  • Relevant medical history
  • Known reactions or sensitivities
  • Veterinary discharge instructions
  • Demonstration of specialized procedures when appropriate
  • Emergency contact authorization
  • An adequate supply of medications and necessary supplies

Changes to medication dosage or treatment instructions should come from the pet parent and/or treating veterinary professional as appropriate.

🚨 WHEN SOMETHING DOESN’T LOOK RIGHT

Your pet’s safety comes first.

If we observe a significant change or potential medical concern, we’ll attempt to contact you or your designated emergency contact and follow the emergency instructions established in your care plan.

When circumstances reasonably indicate that urgent veterinary attention is necessary, your pet’s established emergency authorization and veterinary-care instructions will guide our response.

🏥 WE SUPPORT VETERINARY CARE—WE DON’T REPLACE IT

PAWsome Companions provides professional non-veterinary pet care and veterinarian-directed at-home support within our team’s training and scope of services.

We do not diagnose medical conditions, prescribe medication, change prescribed dosages, or provide veterinary treatment.

When your pet has a medical condition, we work alongside the care plan established by you and your veterinary team to provide dependable support at home.

PROFESSIONAL COMMUNICATION

Detailed visit reports help you know what care was completed and how your pet was doing during the visit.

🐾 DOES YOUR PET NEED MORE TIME?

Specialty care can also be combined with our other professional services.

Depending on your pet’s needs, we may recommend:

Specialty & Medical Drop-In Visits
For scheduled treatments, medications, wellness monitoring, and shorter periods of care.

Hourly Pet Sitting & Extended Care
For pets requiring several hours of supervision, recovery support, or companionship.

Specialty Overnight Care
For pets who require additional support or monitoring overnight.

This allows us to build the level of care around your pet rather than forcing your pet into a predetermined service.

LET’S CREATE THE RIGHT CARE PLAN 🐾

Before beginning Specialty & Medical Pet Care, we’ll review your pet’s condition, temperament, routine, medications, veterinary instructions, handling requirements, and any special considerations.

When appropriate, we may also request a demonstration of your pet’s established medical-care routine before the first scheduled service.

Our priority is making sure both your pet and our caregivers are comfortable with the care plan before you leave them in our hands.
