- Declining or modifying care when a request falls outside our permitted scope, caregiver competency, insurance coverage, or safe home-care conditions
MEDICATION & VETERINARIAN-DIRECTED CARE REQUESTS
Some pets require more specialized support at home.
Potential requests may involve:
- Oral medications
- Topical medications
- Eye or ear medications

- Prescribed injections

- Subcutaneous fluids
- Post-operative care routines
- Veterinarian-directed wound-related support
- Other prescribed home-care procedures
Important: These services are not automatically available simply because they are requested.
Any request involving injections, insulin, subcutaneous fluids, wound-related procedures, or other medical treatment tasks is reviewed individually before acceptance.
Depending on the requested procedure, we may require:
- Current written veterinary instructions
- Medication name and concentration
- Prescribed dosage
- Route of administration
- Frequency
- Administration window
- Treating veterinarian information
- Emergency veterinary information
- Owner authorization
- Veterinary communication authorization
- Confirmation that the requested service is within applicable legal and insurance requirements
- Assignment to an appropriately qualified caregiver

PAWsome Companions is a professional pet-care provider and is not a veterinary hospital.
We do not:
- Diagnose medical conditions
- Prescribe medications
- Determine medication dosages
- Change prescribed dosages
- Discontinue medications
- Develop veterinary treatment plans
- Interpret diagnostic test results
- Provide veterinary medical advice
- Represent non-veterinary personnel as veterinary professionals
The treating veterinarian remains responsible for veterinary diagnosis and medical treatment decisions.
Our role is to support the established home-care routine and communicate meaningful observations appropriately.
Step 1 — Contact PAWsome Companions
Pet parents may contact us directly, or veterinary hospitals may refer clients to our team.
Step 2 — Complete Your New Client Information
New clients will complete our registration form and provide details about their pet, home, care needs, veterinarian, and emergency contacts.
Step 3 — New Client Consultation & Care Assessment
Before care begins, we meet with you and your pet to discuss your needs and review the proposed care plan.
The New Client Consultation & Care Assessment typically takes 30–45 minutes.
Consultation Fee: $25
Your consultation fee will be credited toward your first completed pet-care service.
Step 4 — Provide Veterinary Instructions
For pets recovering from surgery or managing medically complex conditions, we may request:
- Veterinary discharge paperwork
- Medication instructions and a current medication list
- Activity and mobility restrictions
- Feeding instructions
- Veterinarian and emergency hospital contact information
- Written guidance on when to contact your veterinarian
Step 5 — Care Plan Review
Our team reviews your requested services to determine:
- The appropriate visit length and recommended frequency
- Caregiver and scheduling requirements
- Documentation requirements
- Whether we can safely and appropriately provide the requested services
Step 6 — Recovery Support Begins
Once your care plan is approved and your reservation is confirmed, our team will begin providing professional, in-home recovery support.
After each completed service, you will receive detailed updates through our pet-care communication system.

GUIDANCE FOR VETERINARY PROFESSIONALS
Helping Clients Carry Out the Home-Care Plan
The PDF below is a supplemental Medical Care Agreement and Veterinary Communication Authorization for clients using Veterinary Discharge & Recovery Support.
It explains that PAWsome Companions:
- Provides professional in-home support but is not a veterinary practice.
- Follows current written veterinary instructions without diagnosing conditions or changing treatments, medications, dosages, routes, or schedules.
- Requires clients to provide accurate instructions, properly labeled medications, supplies, veterinary contacts, safety disclosures, and an emergency plan.
- Documents completed care and objective observations, escalating concerns to the client, veterinarian, or emergency hospital when appropriate.
- May stop or modify care when handling becomes unsafe or instructions are unclear.
- Requires updated documentation whenever veterinary instructions or medications change.
- Requires specific client authorization to communicate with veterinary providers about discharge instructions, medications, restrictions, missed doses, rechecks, and observed concerns.
- May transport a pet for emergency evaluation when authorized, with veterinary and transportation expenses remaining the client’s responsibility.
- Reviews injections, insulin, subcutaneous fluids, wound treatment, glucose testing, bandage care, and other advanced procedures individually. These services are not approved unless PAWsome Companions provides case-specific written clearance.
- Cannot guarantee that a pet will accept medication or that a particular medical or recovery outcome will occur.
The agreement also includes client acknowledgments, veterinary-communication authorization options, emergency hospital and spending information, and signature lines. We ask you please print out a copy for all referrals.
