Tips When Meeting Your Sitter or Walker

As a new client to our PAWsome family; we want your experience to be outstanding! How can you help? Here are a few tips and suggestions!

  1. Be Organized: Have your information together to include your vet’s address and phone number, travel info including dates & times of travel and emergency contact information.
  2. House Key: Have a well-used copy of your house key for your pet sitter. Even if we will be using an alternative form of entry like a garage key-less code, we do like to have a backup key. Over the years, we have had power outages, garage door springs break, etc. Also, if you need to make a copy of a key, we will prefer to use your well-broken in key, just in case the new key isn’t cut quite right.
  3. Pet Supplies: Have plenty of extra supplies of pet food, medications, litter etc.
  4. Cleaning Supplies: Keel them in the same place and if you want us to clean up the occasional accident, let your sitter know what you’d prefer them use and have plenty of paper towels too!
  5. Close Doors: Please close rooms that you don’t want your pets in. Many pets will pace and feel like they need to “guard” the house. Less to guard means less anxiety for your pet in many situations.
  6. Radio or TV: Having a radio or television on during the daytime can help your pet to feel like someone is around and can keep them company. (Just like us!)
  7. Thermostat: You can adjust your thermostat while you are gone a little, but a closed-up house can get hot and stuffy quickly in the summer. In the winter it can get quite chilly. It is not inviting for your sitter to come in from the cold to find the house freezing while we spend time loving on your pets.
  8. Other People in Your Home: Please let us know if other people will be entering your home during your absence, whether to care for pets or clean your house, etc. We always want to feel safe, and it can be un-nerving to “know” someone was there that we were unaware of.
  9. Veterinarian Information: If you will be unreachable on your trip (like on a cruise or in a remote area) please contact your regular vet to discuss care if your pet is to require medical attention while you are away. Otherwise, your pet sitter or your veterinarian will contact you if this arises.
  10. Written Instructions: If you travel frequently, it can be very helpful to keep your pet & home instructions on your computer. This makes it very easy to update your instructions especially with elderly, medicated, and chronically ill pets.
